Bandhavgarh.
Once the hunting preserve of the Maharajas of Rewa, Bandhavgarh takes its name from Ramayana legend — Bandhav (brother) and Garh (fort), the hilltop citadel said to be gifted by Lord Rama to Lakshman. Today it is celebrated for the highest density of Royal Bengal tigers on earth, and as the ancestral land of the white tiger.
The Tiger Safari
Open-jeep drives run at dawn and dusk across three core zones — Tala, Magadhi and Khitauli — each three to four hours with a ranger and guide. Tala, the oldest and most scenic, is the premium zone for sightings.
Flora & Fauna
Sal and bamboo forests, grassy meadows and seasonal streams shelter leopards, sloth bears, gaur, sambar, chital, dhole and over 150 species of birds — a living wildlife documentary in every drive.
Travel & Timing
The reserve is open 15 October to 30 June. October–March is lush and ideal for birding; April–June offers the highest chance of tigers at drying waterholes. Umaria railway is ~32 km; Jabalpur airport ~170 km. Book safaris well ahead.
